JUPITER has a span of 14,000 kilometers to connect PLDT’s cable landing station in Daet, Camarines Norte to Japan and to the West Coast in the US. As a result, this will give off additional capacity of more than 22Tbps and 17.6Tbps from the Philippines to and from Japan and US, respectively.

The new trans-Pacific cable is an upgradeable technology that uses an open cable model, allowing PLDT to power up its fiber capacity. It will also enable the tech giant and other consortium participants to quickly upgrade capacity in response to growing data traffic and customer data usage.

“This investment is of strategic importance given that a significant amount of content are downloaded by data users from servers abroad, particularly from the United States and Japan,” PLDT Chief Revenue Officer Alfred S. Panlilio addressed.

JUPITER is expected to be completed and operational by 3Q 2020.
