Smartphone giant Huawei has been a household name in the tech scene for many reasons, and it’s undeniable that a huge factor of this is the brand’s thrust for innovation. Huawei is one of the first smartphone brands to launch a smartphone with Artificial Intelligence, as well as camera-centric mobile phones with a dual-camera system. The brand has also solidified its position as a company that doesn't just focus on its high-end, flagship devices but also on its entry-level and mid-range segment. A proof of this is the Huawei Y7p, the new kid on the block.

Contrary to the false beliefs that a Huawei smartphone can’t work properly without access to Google’s services and apps, the Huawei Y7p delivered well when we used it as our main driver for a couple of days, thanks to Huawei’s very own AppGallery.

The AppGallery is just one arm of Huawei’s entire mobile services catalog. While this is a feature unique not just to the Huawei Y7p, but to a lot of other Huawei mobile devices as well, the Huawei Y7p stands out from other entry-level smartphones since it has its own source of trusted and secure apps downloadable on the phone even without the Google Play Store. With this, users of the Huawei Y7p can download apps with ease using just their Huawei ID accounts.

To date, Huawei’s very own AppGallery is considered as the third largest app source globally with an estimate of over 400 million active users from all over the world -- figures that are expected to increase even more as AppGallery continues to expand to accommodate more applications.

The usual socmed scrolling

In the current digital world we live in, it’s usual for everyone to be a ‘tambay’ on social media. Luckily, through the AppGallery, we were able to download social media apps on our Huawei Y7p, including Facebook. And since everyone is unleashing their creativity through social video sharing platform TikTok, we are also able to try different filters. Apps like Facebook and Tiktok can be downloaded directly on the AppGallery.

And since the Huawei Y7p is made equipped with powerful internals, we were able to switch between different apps seamlessly. This smartphone carries a Kirin 710F processor, a powerful chipset that allows an entry-level device like the Huawei Y7p to work smoothly even when different apps are opened and used simultaneously.

Another important feature of the Huawei Y7p is the Full Scene Acceleration technology, which augments the capability of the smartphone to seamlessly and simultaneously handle different applications. The Full Scene Acceleration technology takes the job of optimizing the smartphone’s overall system to identify which particular apps and tasks are in need of memory allocation, therefore resulting in a smoother smartphone experience.

To be able to produce TikTok videos that are sure to gain views and likes, aside from creativity, it’s important to find a smartphone that has an outstanding camera quality.

The Huawei Y7p joins the bandwagon of camera-centric smartphones, and it’s 48-megapixel tripe cameras make it one of the few entry-level devices to carry such.

Slated as a device fit for a versatile photography experience, the Huawei Y7p’s triple rear cameras are comprised of its 48-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel Super Wide Angle camera with a 120-degree FoV, and a 2-megapixel Depth Assist camera for natural-looking bokeh effect on portraits.

Apart from this, the Huawei Y7p also attributes its unique camera feature to its Night Mode. Combining Huawei’s algorithm with AI, the Huawei Y7p can capture night sceneries with the right amount of sharpness, clarity, and color accuracy. With an improved stabilization, the Huawei Y7p is capable of delivering picture-perfect images through handheld night shots with six-second exposure.

Other camera features of the Huawei Y7p include AI Scene Recognition, which automatically adjusts camera settings depending on different scenes and subjects, Slow-Mo Mode, which allows 480fps video shooting even on an entry-level device, and an 8-megapixel selfie camera backed with AI.

A good mix of fun and productivity

Mobile gaming apps are starting to gain popularity again when the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game Mobile Legends was introduced a few years ago. With the Huawei Y7p, we were able to enjoy a lag-free Mobile Legends game, which by the way, is also available via third-party download. There are hundreds of simulation and role-playing games as well as kid-friendly classic favorites onboard AppGallery, including Mobile Royale, Guns of Glory, Asphalt 9: Legends Epic Car Racing Game, Cut the Rope 2, Word Jungle, Food Truck Chef.

What makes an entry-level, budget-friendly device like Huawei Y7p capable of handling graphics-heavy games and apps? Apart from its Kirin 710F processor, the Huawei Y7p also runs on a 4,000mAh battery, which can operate up to two days on a single charge. To be more specific, this smartphone can last for 22 hours of video playback, 111 hours of music, and 20 hours of web surfing.

Of course, a day can’t go by with just all fun and games. It’s also important to keep productivity in check. With the Huawei Y7p, we were also able to pay bills and run bank errands with banking and finance apps available on the AppGallery including

PayMaya, GCash, BDO, UnionBank, PSBank, and RCBC. We were also able to squeeze in a quick shopping session on BeautyMNL, Alibaba, and ZAFUL, which are available as well via direct download from the AppGallery.

Since smartphones have become instrumental in important day-to-day transactions, it’s essential to find a device that has high security. Among the enhanced features of the Huawei Y7p is its operating system. The EMUI 9.1 comes with security features like the revamped Face Unlock 2.0, which allows tighter security for face unlocking by identifying different facial angles of the smartphone user.

Binge-watch and chill

Also, among the apps available on AppGallery are on-demand video streaming apps like Viu, iFlix, and iWant, with a whole lot more to come on board. With the Huawei Y7p’s next-generation display, watching TV series and movies is surely a delightful task to do. This smartphone flaunts a 6.39-inch HD+ Punch FullView, thanks to Huawei’s industry punch hole technology, which concealed the smartphone's front camera to pave way for a bigger screen. Adding to its high-end feel is the smartphone’s slim bezels, which aid in achieving a screen-to-body ratio of 90 percent and a 19.5:9 screen ratio.

Mirroring its display, the Huawei Y7p can easily be one of those devices that you’d want to flaunt. Clad in trendy colors of Aurora Blue and Midnight Black, the Huawei Y7p defines its aesthetics through a futuristic 2.5D glare effect on the back of the smartphone, made possible through Huawei’s nano-texture technology.

Launched in the Philippines in February of this year, the Huawei Y7p is priced at Php9,990.
