The said meeting is also targeted to cement Thailand’s leading position as a digital hub in the ASEAN region.
“We appreciate Huawei’s commitment to Thailand in the further cooperation on communications and telecommunications, especially the building of 5G network, which the Thai government has emphasized, and we are ready to develop our country’s capability to become the region’s digital technology leader,” said the Thailand Prime Minister.
Thailand released its 5G spectrum last February, which resulted in significant progress in the country’s 5G construction, putting the nation as one of the prime countries leading in technology.
5G also posed an essential aid in the development of Thailand’s ICT industry and digital economy as it brought advantages and initiatives to the country’s economic state after the global health emergency that is COVID-19.
Similar to other countries, Thailand also had a sudden increase in the demand in home-based jobs which led to the migration of people’s daily lives to the internet. Fittingly, Thailand’s network is stable and user experience has been improved.
Thailand has also developed various applications like 5G+AI technology anti-epidemic and 5G+VC online worship, proving that 5G and ICT technologies are instrumental in the resumption of the economy through contactless and cashless methods.

“It is also our commitment in capturing the full capacities of ICT innovations including 5G ecosystem, AI, Big Data, and Cloud Service in order to improve the quality of life, as well as to enhance the capabilities of both public and private sectors. The collaboration will help us accelerate the growth of the economy and overcome any challenges ahead of us,” he added.

In May, Thailand has officially formed a 26-member National 5G Committee lead by Thailand Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha as the country moves to hasten the development of 5G to boost its digital economy.
Under this, the Digital Economy and Society Ministry has collaborated with Huawei Technologies to bring Artificial Intelligence (AI)-backed hospital tools to enable efficient output diagnosis results through a high-speed network.
Due to the pandemic, Thailand’s major telco players hastened 5G deployment, particularly in the hospitals, to aid doctors and medical professionals to curb COVID-19.
“Application of 5G to public health demonstrates how digital infrastructure can have a significant impact on people's health during a major emergency,” said Buddhipongse Punnakanta, Thailand Digital Economy and Society Minister.
Thailand’s National 5G Committee is tasked to promote vertical 5G development, ensuring optimum benefits of 5G adoption for the economy and end-users.
