Accenture’s Future Home in the 5G Era Underscores Key Role of Communication Service Providers |
Written by Accenture industry experts Jefferson Wang and Boris Maurer before the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the said book entitled ‘The Future Home in the 5G Era,’ detailed about hyper-connected homes with personalized services from home for remote-work and learning, as well as essential industries like healthcare, telemedicine, social communications, immersive entertainment, community relations, childcare, and advanced aging care.

With CSP’s history and background not just on technological capabilities but also on trusted consumer relationships, with the implementation of 5G, they will be able to come up with business models that will drive platform-based innovation and recalibrate customer experiences in connection to smart homes and smart cities.
Wang particularly pointed out how the importance of the ‘Future Home’ was highlighted when COVID-19 hit the world, as the pandemic brought restrictions to mobility.
“More of the global population now works from home, educates children at home, games and entertains and even interacts with doctors at home,” he said.
“This changes the definition of the home and CSPs can mobilize to adapt to these changes to play a critical role in supporting consumers, business and governments in the Future Home,” the expert added.
With the adoption of 5G already underway, Accenture’s new book emphasized that this will bring new, high-quality digital services in the Future Home ecosystem, including technology systems for device manufacturers, platform providers, and app designers, especially for the healthcare industry and the consumer goods sectors.
The book also listed key factors Accenture deems essential in transforming the structure and culture of CSP’s businesses to achieve growth, profitability, sustainability, and trust.
These include: reinventing the front office digitally to create a proactive, real-time customer experience, giving consumers a sense of control over their Future Home; revamping the back office to become lean and agile, supporting the innovative, dynamic business models required and their high-frequency customer interactions; training staff in the radically new skills they’ll need to operate effectively in this new service world; adopting rapid product development to keep pace with the ever-changing demands of Future Home users; building agile technology platforms that can scale rapidly and accommodate ecosystems involving a wide array of partners, and activating a pervasive connectivity layer which binds 5G and all the other elements together to provide the ubiquitous connectivity required to power the Future Home.
“By putting human needs at the core of their strategy, CSPs can become the ecosystem orchestrator needed for the future to start taking shape today. They hold the key to transforming the fragmented digital infrastructure of our homes, and provision the seamless future that serves our expanding in-home needs while also driving lasting business growth,” Wang furthered.
