Confirming Your Race

After downloading the game, one of the first things you'll be asked to do is confirm your race. You're given four options: Amarr, Gallente, Caldari, and Minmater. These are empires that each have their own lore, history, and politics in the EVE universe. So, which should you pick? Well, which one you select will determine where you start, what your first two ships will be, and which character portraits you can choose from. But your race won't limit your choices in the game beyond where you start. Once you progress a little, you can enter Minmaster territory, obtain new ships, and so on. With that said, if you still need some help deciding, then here's a quick overview:
  • Amarr: A religious race that uses cool-looking gold ships equipped with lasers, drones, and armor.
  • Gallente: A freedom-loving race that specializes in autonomous drones. Sometimes called the space socialists.
  • Caldari: Big on honor, capitalism, and patriotism, Caldari strives for greatness. They use angular ships equipped with railguns, missiles, and shields.
  • Minmatar: A tribal race that uses unique-looking ships equipped with cannons, armor, and shields. The ships tend to be super fast.

Do the Tutorial!

We get it, tutorials aren't always fun, but in EVE Echoes, it's necessary. If you go through the basic tutorial, then you unlock the advanced tutorial. By completing the tutorial, you'll get your first ship and tell you how to use it, how to dock in space, and so on. In the advanced tutorial, you'll complete some missions to improve your tech level, train some skills, and get some bounties. You'll also get a beginner’s insurance voucher; this essentially means that if your ship gets destroyed, you can rebuild it for free. All of that was just stage one in the advanced tutorial; as you progress through all the stages, you'll unlock lots more things, including more advanced ships.

Familiarize Yourself with the Basics

The tutorial is excellent, but there's no better way to get to grips with the game than exploring. Here are some of the basics you need to familiarize yourself with early on.

Market and ISK

This is where you can buy and sell equipment and earn ISK. ISK is the main currency you'll be using, so it's a good idea to come up with some strategies early on. For novice ISK earning, it's a good idea to start with mining. You can go out into space and mine ores and sell them or refine ores into minerals (if you have the right skill level). You can also earn ISK by doing missions, which are split into categories (combat, mining, hauling, and investigation). The choice here gives you a lot of freedom to make ISK in a way that suits your gameplay style. If you want to boost your ISK straight away, then you can buy EVE Echoes ISK online for both iOS and Android.

Looting

Before long, you'll destroy a ship. You should always remember to loot the ships you destroy because this is a great way to get some free equipment and advance in the game.

PVP

PVP is a core part of the game and often the primary reason for playing for many players. You might want to get stuck into PVP early on, but it's best to wait until you have a decent ship and a backup ship. If you don't, you could find yourself easily beaten by enemy players and your progress pushed back. Remember, when you lose, you can lose your stuff.

Buying Items

Buying items is very straightforward. You simply go to the market page, where you can select the type of item you want, for example, blueprints, ships, or slots like weaponry, missiles, and lasers. Slots are split into High, Mid, and Low. Low slots are enhancements like armor, warp dampeners, and shield boosters. Mid slots are drones or electronic warfare items. Hih slots are weaponry like lasers, missile launchers, and harvesting tools. If you can't find what you need or want something specific, you can also buy EVE Echoes items online at Eldorado.
