vivo Y76 5G Review; Gaming Ace, Good Buy

INTRODUCTION:

You know how a buzzer-beater winning point in a basketball game is always a glorious moment? This, for us, is similar to what smartphone giant vivo did when it launched the vivo Y76 5G in the last few days of 2021. This device makes 5G technology more accessible to the masses. It also delivers the right specs and features one would look for in a midrange device. So let’s take a closer look at it.

DESIGN and DISPLAY:

If you’ve seen the outbox of the vivo Y76 5G with a Mobile Legend sleeve, that’s because the tech brand collaborated with Moonton to release the said device. You still get the standard ones for package inclusions – minus the Mobile Legend branding. The vivo Y76 5G comes with the smartphone itself, a USB Type-C cable, a pair of earphones, a silicone case, a 44W wall adapter, and the usual documentation.

The vivo Y76 5G is a stunner in all its angles. While its body is mainly made of plastic, its overall look exudes sophistication. It comes with a shiny rear part, a slim body, and smooth edges. It also offers an easy and comfortable grip, even in one-hand use.

On top of the device lies its SIM card tray with hybrid slots for two SIM cards and a microSD card for storage expansion. Its volume rocker and a power button with an integrated fingerprint scanner are Situated on its right cheek. At the bottom is where you’ll find the smartphone’s speakers, USB Type-C port with 44W charging support, 3.5 mm audio jack, and a microphone.

Display-wise, the vivo Y76 5G is equipped with a 6.58-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display. Overall, screen quality is good enough, although it’s a letdown that this smartphone only has a 60Hz refresh rate. Some smartphones are tagged at lower prices with higher refresh rates, so we don’t know why vivo compromised on this matter.

PERFORMANCE:

Powering the vivo Y76 5G from the inside is a Mediatek Dimensity 700 processor, coupled with 8GB RAM with 4GB extended RAM and 128GB of expandable storage.

The Mediatek Dimensity 700 processor is typical for affordable 5G devices. But, do you know what else is similar among devices that carry this chipset? Occasional lags. The vivo Y76 5G was our main driver for a few days, and even in moderate usage, there were times that the smartphone struggled, especially in terms of app switching. This wasn’t the case, though, when we played familiar games with this device. Titles like Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Genshin Impact, and Call of Duty Mobile ran smoothly under medium settings.

In terms of software, the vivo Y76 5G comes with a FunTouch 12 on top of Android 11. This device is one of the first to have the latest version of vivo’s FunTouch out of the box. This adds a seamless user experience with incremental upgrades, including widgets and features for multitasking. There are a number of pre-installed apps which you can quickly get rid of by uninstalling in case you won’t be needing them.

To put things into perspective in terms of the performance of the vivo Y76 5G, here are the benchmark results that we got:
  • Antutu - 322,255
  • Geekbench Single-Core - 560
  • Geekbench Multi-Core - 1,658
  • Geekbench Compute - 1,491
  • PC Mark Work Performance 3.0 - 6,468
  • PC Mark Work Storage 2.0 - 13,201
  • 3D Mark Wild Life - 1,103
  • 3D Mark Wild Life Extreme - 319
  • 3D Mark Sling Shot - 3.458
  • 3D Mark Sling Shot Extreme - 2,402

CAMERA:

The vivo Y76 5G joins the bandwagon of smartphones with lenses planted on a rectangular slate for a more attractive camera module. This smartphone comes with three cameras – two of them are pretty much noticeable where they sit, while the other one is not that much. Its primary shooter is a 50-megapixel lens, joined by a 2-megapixel macro shooter and another 2-megapixel depth sensor. We’ve seen this combination in more affordable smartphones. vivo could’ve stepped up its offering by including an ultrawide lens standard for smartphones at the same price point.

Imaging-wise, the vivo Y76 5G delivers photos with sharp details and lively colors. Moreover, the images it produces are the kinds you don’t need to edit further before posting them on social media. Indoor shooting is also impressive with the vivo Y76 5G, but not that good in night mode shooting.

For selfies, the vivo Y76 5G uses a 16-megapixel f/2.0 camera. What you’ll get are self-portraits with true-to-life skin tones – unlike other smartphones that apply too much filter even on the normal front shooting mode.

Here are some photos we took using the vivo Y76 5G. You be the judge.

Vivo Y12s Review; Style On a Budget

BATTERY:

On paper, the vivo Y76 5G has a 4,100mAh battery. You would think that this is a caveat, considering that entry-level and cheaper midrange devices run on a 5,000mAh juice. But, in terms of actual usage, the vivo Y76 5G offers the same battery life. We were able to use this device for almost the entire day for productivity, multitasking, streaming, and gaming.

We also checked how long it would last on our standard video loop test with 50% display brightness level and 50% volume level. It took 20 hours and 24 minutes before the vivo Y76 5G’s screen blacked out.

Through its USB Type-C port with 44W fast-charging support, the vivo Y76 5G’s battery can reach zero percent to 100 percent in around one and a half hours.

FINAL WORDS:

The vivo Y76 5G delivers the essentials in a midrange device. If you’re a midrange user on the lookout for a new smartphone and you want a safe choice that’s 5G-ready, this smartphone is a good buy for Php16,999.
