The 10th PH Electric Vehicle Summit calls for unity to speed up the country's adoption of electric vehicles.

The public and private sectors are being urged to work together to hasten the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in the Philippines, according to the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP). The industry association presented this as its key message at the 10th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS), held at the SMX Convention Center Manila last October 20 and 21, 2022.

The implementation rules and regulations of the newly passed Republic Act No. 11697 entered into effect one month prior to the PEVS for this year. The law, also known as the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA), seeks to hasten the adoption of EVs in the nation by providing incentives and mandating that businesses and governmental entities allocate 5% of their fleets to EVs. Additionally, it sets the way for identifying green routes in cities and municipalities, as well as the allotment of parking spaces specifically for EVs, the installation of charging stations in parking lots and petrol stations, and these other initiatives.

EVAP President Edmund Araga said during the opening rites of the 10th PEVS, "Now that the implementing rules and regulations of EVIDA law are determined, we expect on public and private sectors to work hand-in-hand to make the changeover to EVs speedier." Therefore, the theme of our 10th summit is "United in Driving E-mobility in Support of EVIDA."

Araga reaffirmed that the government's strong message of "unity" under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is in line with the current drive of the electric vehicle (EV) industry. "I have no doubt that as time goes on, electro-mobility will advance steadily. Our relatively new business will be propelled toward success by unity, said Araga.

With a kick-off motorcade by the EV Owners Society (EVOS) before the opening ceremony, the 10th PEVS marked the EV industry summit's physical venue comeback after two years of being virtual due to the early restrictions of the still-active pandemic. At the same time, it served as a forum for the debut of EVAP's new logo, which represents the organization's and the sector's shift in focus toward a quicker adoption of electro-mobility supported by law.

"Now is the ideal time for us (EVAP) to rebrand and emphasize our goal of creating a modern, electrified road transportation system in the Philippines. This change "embodies our reaffirmation of our commitment to facilitate the country's transition to electric vehicles by pushing and supporting enabling policies, rules, and regulations to speed deployment among public and private sectors," said Araga.

Business and political figures who are publicly supporting the introduction of electric mobility are gathered for the two-day EV summit. EVAP recognized partners who gave the cause unflinching support during the opening rituals. A number of plenary seminars that go deeper into the EVIDA law, worldwide trends and concerns, public and private mobility programs, and manufacturer incentives are also scheduled for the conference. A policy discussion conducted by the Asian Federation of Electric Vehicle Association is also made possible by the conference (AFEVA).
