Binance Academy's Southeast Asia University Tour Opening Leg Hosted in the Philippines
Binance Academy, the world's largest blockchain ecosystem and cryptocurrency infrastructure provider, recently concluded the first leg of its Southeast Asia University Tour in the Philippines. From April 17 to April 20, the Binance Academy team and Kenneth Stern, General Manager of Binance in the Philippines, paid visits to some of the country's most prestigious universities. They went to Far Eastern University, the University of Batangas, the National University of Laguna, the Asia Institute of Management, Enderun Colleges, and the University of Batangas, where they met over a thousand faculty and staff people.

Adam Smurthwaite, Binance's content and partnerships manager, delivered introductory blockchain and cryptocurrency training workshops throughout these tours. Binance Academy teamed with Yield Guild Games (YGG), a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) that invests in NFT gaming ventures, to educate attendees about Web3 gaming and NFTs at National University Laguna. Following that, the 400 students in attendance were divided into groups to brainstorm unique ideas for gamifying a learning platform. As a prize, the winning team received exclusive Binance merchandise.
Binance Academy has scheduled university visits in 75 schools across 25 countries in an effort to enhance global knowledge of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies. Binance Academy's first entry into the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, the Philippines, has experienced tremendous growth and interest in the Web3 ecosystem, with a track record of proven Web3 and blockchain adoption. As this nascent technology evolves, it is critical to bridge the knowledge gap by providing customers with simple access to information and instructional tools.
This commitment to education, according to Kenneth Stern, is one of the crucial aspects in leveraging the Philippines' potential as a significant hub for blockchain and Web 3.0.
He shared on tour: “By working together to build the Web3 infrastructure in the Philippines, we will be able to see more Web3 jobs being created and build a pipeline of local talents. This is an opportune time for young people to learn more about the technology and the values that it can bring.”
Similarly, Adam Smurthwaite said: “The Philippines is an obvious choice for the first stop of our Binance Academy Asia Tour as we managed to get enthusiastic responses from our university partners to visit and hold training sessions for their students. Although nascent, blockchain technology is not foreign to many Filipinos due to the popularity of GameFi in the country. By holding this tour, we hope to create a good entry point to Web3 for the younger minds.”
Binance Academy has worked with Enderun Colleges in the Philippines to increase crypto awareness among students and educators. Carlos Antonio Albornoz, a project development officer, Vienne Mari Velasco, a project development officer, and Jeannine Roxas, a technology consultant for the CICC and assistant vice president for IT audit of SM Retail, Inc., were sent by the DICT and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) to visit the Binance Academy team at Enderun Colleges.
Jeannine Roxas shared at the event: “Blockchain is a promising technology that is gaining more traction and usage in the Philippines. However, it is still very new, and in order to encourage more adoption among Filipinos, it is important to provide them with relevant Web3 education. I am glad there are training sessions, such as this one organized by Binance Academy, available to people.”
University students who attended Binance Academy sessions reported that such educational initiatives provide a reliable setting for learning about and expanding one's understanding of emerging technologies, as well as opportunities for networking with subject matter experts and field leaders. They expressed an interest in participating in relevant programs in the future and in using their newly acquired skills to improve their communities.

Furthermore, the Inter-Institutional Inclusive Innovation Centre in India and Binance Academy launched the "Blockchain for Good" Ideathon to provide a platform for college students to create inclusive solutions for the blockchain ecosystem.
Edukasyon.ph, the Philippines' leading education technology platform, and Binance Academy recently teamed to launch the Binance Scholar Philippines Web3 Scholarship. The educational reach of the market will be broadened as a result of this scholarship program, and Filipinos will have greater opportunities to participate in the Web3 sector.
