GCash Joins Independence Day Festivities in New York, Showcases New Features and Global Partnerships
GCash, the best mobile wallet app in the Philippines and the biggest ecosystem for going cashless, recently joined the Philippine Independence Day Council, Inc. (PIDCI) celebrations in New York City. A non-profit group called PIDCI brings together Filipino-American groups on the East Coast. The Independence Day Parade put on by the PIDCI is the biggest event of its kind outside of the Philippines. It takes place every year and shows off Filipino culture, community, and pride.

General Manager of GCash International Paul Albano showed off new features at the event that will make digital banking services better for Filipinos who live outside of the Philippines. The GCash app can now be downloaded in the US using a US cell phone number, giving the company a wider reach around the world. It is now easier to cash out and move money from more than 12,000 US banks to GCash accounts.
“At GCash, our mission of 'Finance for All' drives us to reach Filipinos all over the world,” Albano said. We're happy to be a part of this uniquely Filipino event, and we can't wait to show how GCash is always coming up with new ways to meet the needs of our Filipino families living abroad.
GCash showed off a float during the main event, the Independence Day Parade on Madison Avenue, on June 2, 2024, which was a full-day cultural festival. The float focused on GCash's main features that help Filipinos stay in touch with each other and their families around the world. GCash also had booths at a street fair going on at the same time to show off its partnerships with banks like Meridian. This connected US-based fintech services with the popular mobile wallet in the Philippines.

Meridian is a New York-based business that makes instant payments. GCash works with Meridian to allow direct transfers from 12,000 US banks to GCash accounts. It offers good exchange rates and a small $1 transaction fee, and it instantly changes dollar amounts to Philippine pesos.
Albano also said, "At GCash, our goal is to help Filipinos living abroad stay in touch with their loved ones, even though they are far away." By going global, GCash is helping Filipinos living abroad get a better handle on their money. Our low rates also make moving money to the Philippines easier.
GCash announced its plans to go global in March, after getting permission from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. The GCash app can now be signed up for and used by Filipinos in 14 territories with foreign cell phone numbers. Kuwait and Saudi Arabia will follow in the second half of 2024.
With its growth around the world, GCash can now help more Filipinos from anywhere. Overseas GCash users can now pay their bills directly to over 1,900 Philippine billers. They can also make free transfers between GCash wallets in real-time.
To use GCash when you're not in the Philippines, just get the GCash app from Google Play, the App Store, or Huawei AppGallery, and make sure your international SIM card is enabled. Users can start using the app after signing up and being verified.
Over the next few weeks, GCash will share its new ideas with Filipino groups in Carson City, California, and Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
