SKK Mobile Platinum

I went to 168 Mall earlier today to buy some house stuffs and unexpectedly I found an SKK Mobile Kiosk with a lot of people buzzing around. Out of curiosity I checked the store and found out that the long awaited SKK Mobile Platinum is already available for Php9,999.

Platinum Poster

The Platinum really looks stunning and I can't help myself to get one. The phone has a solid build quality, the 5-inch HD screen is sharp and vibrant.

The new SKK phablet is powered by MediaTek MT6589 chipset with four cores clocked at 1.2GHz, PowerVR SGX544MP coupled with 1GB of RAM. The internal storage has been upgraded from 8GB (when it was announced) to 16GB which is further expandable via microSD up to 32GB.

Key Specs:

  • Dual SIM , Dual Standby
  • 5" capacitive IPS High Definition LCD (1280 x 720)
  • Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2
  • 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 Quad Core CPU, PowerVR SGX544MP GPU MediaTek MT6589 chipset
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 16GB internal, expandable up to 32GB via microSD
  • 13MP auto focus main camera with LED Flash, 1080p Video Recording
  • 8MP secondary camera
  • GPS with A-GPS and EPO assistance
  • WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, WiFi Direct
  • 3.5 Audio Jack
  • Stereo FM Radio
  • MP3/MP4 Player
  • Micro USB 2.0, USB OTG
  • Bluetooth
  • 1800mAh Li-Ion Battery
  • Air Slide
The phone physical appearance resembles a lot of HTC's design but when you turn on the device, the icons and widgets are similar to that of Samsung's touch wiz UI. One trick added to its software is the Air Slide, wherein you can wave your hand in front of the unit to navigate to gallery, homescreen etc.

As usual, we will do a full review in the upcoming days. So head on comments section below if you want something to be included.

  2. Battery seems to be the only downside, but I guess a good power bank should do the trick. A nice phone though.

  3. The main selling point here is the 16GB internal storage, I think. They should have unveiled this sooner. There are so many great cheap-quad-core phones now that can be bought with P9,999. There should be a slight price cut-off for it to get more attention. Anyway, the device is still great considering the fact that you can store more photos and videos without an SD card.

  5. Update... I played with my unit today and found out that the chipset is MT6589T which means that the processor is quad-core 1.5GHz and the GPU also runs at a higher frequency.
