INTRODUCTION:

Earlier today I attended the Cherry Mobile We Are On Fire event wherein they launched the Titan Pro and the Cosmos Z2. That was the first ever product launching I attended from Cherry Mobile, and I guess there is always luck for first timer.

During the event they raffled several power banks, NFC speakers, Titan 2.0, Titan Pro and Cosmos Z2. Luckily I won the latter, I never actually expected it since the persons on my left and on the right both won Titan Pro.

So here we are, I got a brand new Cosmos Z2 which is the first octa-core phone from Cherry Mobile which also happens to be my first octa-core smartphone.

UNBOXING:

I prepared a short and a quick unboxing video below.

The Cosmos Z2 runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean (Android 4.4 Kit Kat coming in March) and powered by MediaTek MT6592 with 8 CPU cores clocked at 1.7GHz each, 700MHz Mali-450MP GPU coupled with 2GB of RAM.

CPU-Z Info

As you can see on above CPU-Z info, the minimum frequency is 728MHz which is higher than the MT6582 which is only 598MHz, this means that even your phone is idle the CPU still operates at the frequency.

HARDWARE:

The 7.59mm thin frame gives the Cosmos Z2 its sleek body which makes it an elegant looking premium smartphone, worthy of being a flagship.

Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z2 Front
Front

The front is mainly occupied by the 5-inch display, the left and right bezels are just right, not too thick not too thin. Below the display is the usual set of capacitive keys, they lit up once you pressed them. There is an added space below the keys, which is a bit tricky at first since you may think that this is where the capacitive keys are located.

Going on the top of the screen you will find the hidden sensors on the left, the earpiece grill comfortably located at the center and then the secondary camera on the right side.

Back

The back plate is made of plastic with rubbery feel which adds a nice grip on the device. The left and right parts are slightly bent towards the front. The main camera is slightly protruding, so you better be careful lying the phone on its back because the camera will be the first to touch the surface and it might get scratches.

Below the main shooter is the LED flash followed by the 18MP auto-focus imprints. The Cosmos logo is placed in the center while the Cherry Mobile logo is just above the loudspeaker grill.
