Huawei Honor 4X Unboxing, Hands-on and Initial Impression

More than two weeks ago, Honor Philippines officially launched in the country, three of its latest offerings, one of them is the Honor 4X.

Honor is a spin-off brand from Chinese manufacturer Huawei and operating as a standalone entity since October of last year wherein the first phone that they unveiled was the Honor 6. Its main target is the young and tech-savvy consumers that are always looking at the value-segment of the market.

The Honor 4X is a strong evidence of the brand's vision, a smartphone that has a well-balanced specifications and yet affordable. It sports a 5.5-inch display with HD resolution, which translates to about 267 pixels per inch and with the help of the IPS technology, the screen looks sharp and has great viewing angles. On the inside, it uses Huawei's own HiSilicon Kirin 620 chipset that has 64-bit octa core processor clocked at 1.2GHz each plus ARM Mali-450MP4 graphics processing unit. To compliment the capable chip, it has 2GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage.

This dual SIM phablet supports LTE connectivity, has 13MP main camera, 5MP front camera, pretty decent 3000mAh battery, runs on Android 4.4 KitKat that is heavily skinned with Emotion 3.0 UI and retails for a reasonable price tag of Php8,290.

We made an unboxing video below, which you can check to learn more about the Honor 4X.

We run our favorite benchmark applications and the scores are as follows:

Antutu - 31,459
Quadrant - 7527
NenaMark2 - 59.3fps
Vellamo, Browser - 1224, Multicore - 1149, Metal - 940.

Even though it is only clocked at 1.2GHz, the results are comparable to that of MediaTek MT6592/MT8392 octa core chipset that has 1.7GHz frequency. I also compared the scores with the quad core 64-bit MediaTek MT6732 chipset clocked at 1.5GHz each, and surprisingly the results are pretty similar.

As of now we can say that the Honor 4X is quite snappy in terms of performance, the camera is really promising and the battery life is more than sufficient enough. One thing we noticed is that out of the published 8GB of internal storage, only 3GB is available to the user, thankfully, you can set the external storage (micro SD) as your default storage.
