DTC Mobile Axe Unboxing and Quick Review

INTRODUCTION:

It has been a while since DTC Mobile announced their new device, as far as I can remember the last batch of smartphone offerings that they introduced were already a year ago and the DTC Mobile Axe is one of them.

The DTC  Mobile Axe, also known as GT18i, sports a 4.5-inch IPS display with qHD resolution, which translates to around 245 pixels per inch and supports up to 5-point touch. On the inside, it is powered by 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6582 quad core processor coupled with 512MB of RAM, 4GB of expandable storage and runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

UNBOXING and HANDS-ON

The retail package consists of the unit, 1600mAh battery, charger, USB cable, headset, warranty card, user manual and two pieces screen protector (one pre-installed and another extra one in the box). To learn more about its physical appearance, please kindly watch the video we prepared above.

BENCHMARK and IMPRESSION:

In terms of benchmark, it scored more than 20K in Antutu, about 6K in Quadrant, 55.5fps in NenaMark2 and about 1271 in Vellamo Multicore . These results are at par with other smartphones that are using the MediaTek MT6582 chipset, whether those handsets are running on the new Android KitKat or the latest Android Lollipop. This simply means, that their raw processing power is similar, if not equal.

In terms of user experience, although it is running on older Android OS, the UI transitions are still smooth and seamless. However, seasoned Android users can easily feel the difference. Meanwhile, handling apps and games is still OK, as long as you put your expectations low, especially that it only has 512MB of RAM.

Overall, it is still a nice looking phone with good build quality, clear display and able to perform more than just basic tasks.
