INTRODUCTION:
Epson, the global leader in the printer industry, recently launched in the Philippines one of its most innovative all-in-one ink tank system, the Epson L565.
The Epson L565 is the world's first ink tank system printer that has wireless connectivity, automatic document feeder and at the same time has fax capability. Of course, aside from printing, it also functions as a scanner and copier.
DESIGN and BUILD:
Front |
The Epson EcoTank L565 is a compact multi-function all-in-one printer that can easily fit any table at home or office. It measures about 48.4cm x 22.6cm x 37.7cm and weighs slightly over 6 kilograms, 6.2kg to be exact. It has lots of curves and rounded edges with a combination of matte and glossy finish. In terms of appearance, it has the DNA of previous Epson printer and closely resembles that of the Epson L555.
Back |
The front has 2.2-inch mono LCD screen along with the buttons and keys, which allows easy set-up and operation even without a computer. Underneath this module is the collapsible paper tray that can be extended when in use and push back when not needed.
Left |
At the back you will find the feeding tray that can hold up to 100 sheets of paper, it has an adjustable clip to securely hold any kind of paper. To its right are the line and extension ports for the telephone jack together with the LAN port.
Right |
The left side has nothing on it except the USB port for wired connection while the right side holds the ink containers. Speaking of which, the retail package comes with four (CYMK) 70ml ink bottles, each one corresponds to the cartridge of the tank module. Meanwhile, the top holds the simplex 30-page ADF for multiple-page copying, scanning and faxing and directly below it is the
USAGE:
Setting up the printer is not that hard, especially that it comes with easy to follow instructions, but even without the setup guide, average users can easily have it up and running. Just unhook, fill-up and return the ink tank, to its rightful place, then turn on the printer, of course, and it is no-brainer that you need to use the power cord in the package and plug it in any appropriate outlet. After that, place your attention to the LCD monitor as it will walk you through to the whole set-up process and initialization procedure, which would take about 20 minutes.
In terms of communication, it can be connected to a computer via the USB port for a wired connection or wirelessly via WiFi Direct or through home or office network. Either way, the computer can easily detect it, in my case, I am using a Windows 10 PC and pairing them only took me less than 5 minutes. Users can also download the Epson iPrint application in Google Play Store or Apple App Store for them to conveniently print documents, web pages, photos and PDFs using their Android or iOS device.
PERFORMANCE:
Epson L565 |
Epson rated the L565 to be capable of printing max draft text using A4 paper at 33 pages per minute for black and 15ppm for colored documents while 4x6-inch photo draft requires just 27 seconds per page. In real life scenario, this printing speed does not differ much, especially when using the default setting of 300dpi. However, printing multiple pages with full or best print quality continuously is a different story, as it only managed to reach about 17ppm and 8ppm for black and color documents respectively. Nonetheless, it is still quite fast for a multi-function printer.

In terms of print quality, black text on plain paper is sharp and it is quite hard to tell the difference from other printers that uses conventional cartridges. Printing on photo paper, looks good too, images are bright, vibrant and appears to be natural. On the other note, its scanning and copying abilities and qualities are equally near excellent too, plus the 30-page ADF is also a most welcome addition.
One of the important things in owning a printer is the cost per print, Epson says that a 70ml black ink bottle is capable of printing documents up to 4,000 pages while it can yield up to 6,500 pages for the same amount of ink for colored pages. Each bottle costs Php295 pesos and if you equate that to the number of pages it can print, that will result to a very affordable 7.375 centavos per page, this is about 11 times cheaper when compared to other MFP that uses conventional ink, giving the users a savings of as much as Php2,985 per ink bottle versus ordinary ink cartridge. This makes the Epson L565 ideal not only for home and office use, but even for graphic industries and print-for-pay businesses.
CONCLUSION:
The Epson L565 Ink Tank System multi-function printer is really a great all-in-one solution for corporate offices as well as other businesses and establishments that do large volumes of printing as well as scanning and copying. It also provides lots of convenient ways to print and scan, such as wired, WiFi Direct, wireless network and even through cloud.
