ASUS Unveils the ZenFone 3; SD625 Chipset, Octa-Core CPU, 4GB RAM, 5.5-inch FHD Display |
ASUS has been busy establishing its portfolio of mobile devices, and it has done so successfully with its line of Zen smartphones and tablets that have been released as of late. Now, the company is stepping up its game further as it unveils the ASUS ZenFone 3 at COMPUTEX 2016.
The ZenFone 3 is a cut above other smartphones in the Zen lineup, which clearly shows how much ASUS has improved its smartphone designs over the course of its history. It comes with precision-sculpted glass on both sides, delivering that superb aesthetic and handling through Zen's signature concentric-circle pattern. There's 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass on the front of the device, adding up to its design language further.

In terms of specifications, gone now are Intel's chipsets inside the new ZenFone, and we now have a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset with a 2.0GHz octa-core processor and Adreno 506 with 3GB/4GB RAM. Storage options vary between 32GB and 64GB, but it's also expandable via micro SD card up to 128GB. It sports a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display, and battery is at a sweet 3,000mAh. Android 6.0 Marshmallow is also on board. It even features USB Type-C connectivity for future-proofing.

The ZenFone 3 prides itself in the photography department through its 16MP primary snapper and 8MP front-facing shooter. It comes with PixelMaster 3.0 with a large f/2.0-aperture lens as well as TriTech auto-focus for that superb subject focus in just 0.03 seconds. It features OIS and EIS, and its lens is protected with a layer of sapphire glass.

ASUS is also targeting audiophiles by equipping the ZenFone 3 with SonicMaster and High-Res Audio certification. It comes with a five-magnet speaker construction, metal voice coil, as well as an expansive sound chamber to deliver powerful audio performance in studio-grade 24-bit/192kHz playback.
At the time of writing, it's still unknown as to how much the phone will cost and when it will be released. However, ASUS offers its standard ZenFones to the mass market, so we can expect it to start around Php12,000.
