The wireless division of PLDT has achieved a new milestone in its mission to provide Filipino mobile users with the best overall experience thanks to Ookla, the world leader in mobile and broadband network intelligence, which recently named Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) as the Philippines' Fastest and Best Mobile Network in its most recent report.

The Best Mobile Network citation is a prestigious honor that Ookla has only bestowed upon only 20 mobile operators worldwide, with Smart becoming the first and only Philippine mobile provider to do so since Speedtest began in 2017. A mobile operator must take the top spot in the Fastest Mobile Network and Best Mobile Coverage categories of the Ookla Speedtest AwardsTM during the same test period in order to get this recognition.

Broadest coverage and quickest speeds

Smart won the title of "Fastest Mobile Network" in the most recent Ookla's Speedtest AwardsTM for Q1–Q2 2022* with a Speed Score of 62.22, while its nearest rival had a Speed Score of 32.48.

In order to win this category, Smart posted median download and upload speeds of 24.26 Mbps and 6.59 Mbps, respectively. In contrast, its nearest rival posted median download and upload speeds of 17.47 Mbps and 6.43 Mbps.

With a Coverage Score of 794, Smart outperformed its closest rival's 732 in the "Best Mobile Coverage" category. According to Ookla's research, the Coverage Score accounts for both the operator's footprint—the number of places in which it provides service—and the level of service at each of those sites.

The finest position to improve Filipinos' quality of lives

Smart consumers now have a lot better experience, especially when it comes to surfing apps and websites, uploading and downloading files, streaming films, and playing mobile games, among other things. Smart has achieved its core goal of empowering the lives of Filipinos. This improved customer experience has recently been recognized by a number of independent analytics companies, which is evidenced by Smart.

The prestigious Speedtest Awards, sponsored by Ookla, are given to the world's fastest and best mobile and fixed broadband providers. It gives us great pleasure to hand the Best Mobile Network in the Philippines award to Smart. According to Ookla's meticulous study of consumer-initiated tests conducted using Speedtest, this accolade is a testament to their remarkable performance in H1 2022, according to Doug Suttles, CEO of Ookla.

It's a great honor for Smart to be the first mobile service provider in the Philippines to be named the "Best Mobile Network." This motivates us to continue working toward improving connectivity for our consumers as we all transition to a life that is empowered by technology, according to Alfredo S. Panlilio, president and CEO of PLDT and Smart.

"We want to improve every Filipino's quality of life. Since we also support the government's goal of digitalizing the nation, this fits with our efforts to build the country, Panlilio continued.

"This ground-breaking recognition is the result of Smart's relentless effort on offering Filipinos the greatest customer experience for the past several years. Francis E. Flores, SVP and Head of Consumer Business Group - Individual at Smart, stated, "We are committed to consistently enhancing our network so we can empower Filipinos with our fastest speeds and largest coverage, enabling them to make every moment count and achieve more in life.

Subscribers can do and achieve more with Smart's fastest speeds, from calling loved ones in crystal-clear calls to transmitting crucial documents for work and school in a flash, sharing material on social media in real-time, and playing high-bandwidth mobile games without lag.

Subscribers may stay connected more thanks to Smart's extensive coverage, whether they are relaxing at home or at work, traveling to or from school or job, or vacationing outside of the city.

Operator in the Philippines to beat

The most recent Ookla Speedtest Awards are the latest in a long line of recognitions for Smart's network leadership.

As the winner of the Opensignal Mobile Experience Awards**, which covered the key facets of service, namely speed, and experience, independent business Opensignal dubbed Smart as the "operator to beat in the Philippines" in April. Best Overall Experience for Video, Games, Voice App, and Download Speed Across All Technologies are among the honors given out in this category.

To meet the expanding mobile data requirements of 3G, 4G/LTE, and 5G clients from Batanes to Tawi-Tawi, Smart had about 77,100 total base stations across the country as of the end of June 2022, including about 7,300 5G base stations.

Through Mobile Number Portability, a service that can be readily booked via https://smart.com.ph/Pages/mobilenumberportability, and at Smart Stores countrywide, non-Smart users can enjoy the power of Smart without changing their number.
