The 110th anniversary of Sharp Corporation (referred to as "Sharp") is celebrated on September 15. On this date in 1912, 110 years ago, the company's founder, Tokuji Hayakawa, opened a metalworking shop in Tokyo. Later, he created the "Ever Ready Sharp Pencil," a mechanical twist-type pencil that would eventually give rise to the company brand.

Sharp is a leading global creator of cutting-edge goods and fundamental technologies that will significantly influence the direction of electronics in the future. The company's mission statement is "Changing the World with 8K+5G and AIoT." While 5G is the next phase of mobile data transmission, 8K technology produces images that reveal a realm beyond our ordinary reality and give rise to exciting new discoveries. It provides ultra-low latency and multi-terminal connectivity thanks to considerable data transfer, speed, and capacity improvements. Additionally, 5G increases communication capacity to enable universal connectivity between users and various gadgets.

Contrarily, AIoT is a tactile and intuitive approach created through the application of cloud connectivity and AI to a full suite of familiar everyday appliances, transforming devices from valuable tools to active partners in addressing the needs of individual households and society as a whole. Sharp's singular synthesis of AI (Artificial Intelligence) and IoT (Internet of Things) is.

Sharp pursues the "One Sharp" business by integrating its two device companies, Display Devices and Electronic Devices, which serve its three main brand businesses of Smart Life, 8K Ecosystem, and ICT, to realize its goal.

Sharp has accomplished many milestones with its products and solutions throughout its 110-year history.

Refocusing on ESG via Business Transformation

In celebration of its 110th anniversary, Sharp has unveiled a new management structure that will enable it to transform, refocus on ESG, increase its social value, and rejuvenate its brand for long-term success.

Four main policies will guide the management's emphasis on ESG: 1) Strengthening healthcare-related businesses further; 2) Making a carbon-neutral contribution; 3) Base management on HITO (people), and 4) Being a true global firm.

(1) Strengthen healthcare-related businesses even more
By enhancing the sensing capabilities built into its home appliances, TVs, and mobile devices, developing special healthcare-related sensors, creating new healthcare-related devices, and aggressively pursuing partnerships and M&A(Mergers & Acquisition) deals, Sharp will introduce products, services, and solutions focused on preventive care. In this manner, a system will be created that spontaneously gathers data about people's health in various settings and offers the best solution for each individual. Sharp eventually wants to see individuals realize they can lead healthy lives independently.

(2) Support for carbon neutrality
By lowering its GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emissions and promoting renewable energy in society, Sharp will help the world become carbon neutral. According to Sharp's long-term environmental vision, "Sharp Eco Vision 2050," the company intends to achieve net zero GHG emissions through its operations. Sharp's mid-term goal is to cut GHG emissions by 60% by 2035. Sharp will strengthen its aerospace and automotive appliance businesses, grow its PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) business, and speed up research into cutting-edge solar cells like perovskite for usage in practical applications to achieve this goal. By using these methods, Sharp hopes to help society become carbon neutral by 2030 by reducing GHG emissions by roughly 12 times the emissions from its own internal operations.

(3) Management based on HITO (people)
The personnel system will be improved based on four perspectives: hybrid personnel with numerous professions, innovation-cultivating atmosphere, talent-based optimal personnel stationing, and opportunity for progress provided to superb members. The initials are HITO, which in Japanese means "people."

To cultivate a young and spirited corporate culture, it will be specifically implemented to implement performance-based personnel systems to support young talents, attractive work treatment systems to gather professional personnel, fulfilled structures to support personnel growth, and rejuvenating and speed-up of decision processes.

(4) True Global Company
Sharp wants to grow its global business by fostering management innovation and enhancing each region's sales strategy. Although it is already well-known as a reliable electronics brand in Japan, it aims to expand its brand recognition globally in order to benefit society with its highlighted goods, services, solutions, and technology.

To raise the brand's profile globally, it will be specifically promoted to develop a global workforce, speed up partnerships and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) with international businesses, introduce new products using the newest technology simultaneously around the world, and strengthen locally adapted goods and services.

Sharp's dependable presence has undoubtedly illuminated countless lives throughout the years. With its cutting-edge technology, ground-breaking designs, and comprehensive approach, Sharp will continue to be your reliable and reassuring friend. Sharp's products are made to satisfy consumers' daily requirements and want while also offering a breath of satisfaction. Sharp will remain your friend throughout the years and continue to change people's lives. Sharp plans to keep it that way for a long time since friendship is a lifetime commitment.

Sharp Philippines will hold several events and promotions to honor Sharp Corporation's 110th anniversary and to show its appreciation for its patrons' support over the years. Included in these are CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) activities in public schools, a B2B (Business to Business) exhibit taking place this September 22–24 in Manila, special promotions and giveaways at all of their Koten events for September and October, and other exhibits where 110th Sharp swag will be distributed.
