World Hunger Day is May 28. It is a time for people all over the world to take action against the problem of hunger and poor nutrition. More than a billion women and children are malnourished, and almost 800 million people don't have enough food. This problem needs to be fixed right away.

An OCTA Research group study found that about 2.9 million families still deal with food insecurity, even though the Philippines has made progress in reducing forced hunger.

"Hunger and poor nutrition have effects that reach across generations and around the world." "But if we act locally, we can help find a global solution to this problem," said Daniel Marogy, CEO of foodpanda Philippines.

In honor of World Hunger Day, foodpanda has started a number of programs that hope to cut down on hunger, malnutrition, and food waste by a large amount.

The Panda Way of Sharing Meals

In partnership with the UN World Food Program (WFP), Foodpanda is making it easy for app users to give meals at checkout using the innovative fundraising mobile app ShareTheMeal (STM). The tool is meant to make it easier to give money to local causes.

Missions to Save Food

On April 24, which was Stop Food Waste Day, Foodpanda worked with Scholars of Sustenance (SOS PH) to get almost-expired things from its grocery store, Pandamart, and give them to communities in need.

"By redirecting these near-expiry items to those who can still benefit from them, we are taking a significant stride against food wastage," Marogy said. Because of the donations from pandamart, over 3,000 meals were given to SOS PH's partner towns.

What You Can Do on World Hunger Day

People who work at Foodpanda joined SOS PH at their soup kitchen in Marikina on World Hunger Day to cook saved food and feed 300 people.

Marogy promised that these attempts would continue even after the annual events were over. As we celebrate World Hunger Day this year, let us think about how important it is to end hunger and poor diet for good. "One meal at a time," our goal is to make the future healthy for everyone.
