We spent a whole month with the TECNO CAMON 50 and it left us with one realization: sometimes, it pays to look beyond the big names. Up-and-coming brands can surprise you with what they bring to the table, and the TECNO CAMON 50 is a good example. From its standout features to its relatively affordable price tag, here are the things that made us think this phone is worth a closer look.

Less is more
While other smartphones chase distinctive designs with elaborate camera modules and unnecessary flourishes, the TECNO CAMON 50 takes a cleaner approach. Its straightforward design, complete with a vertically aligned camera setup, is easy on the eyes, while the semi-glossy rear panel adds just enough visual flair without going overboard.

The device feels solid and sturdy without the unnecessary bulk. Its flat body and edges also make for a comfortable, secure grip. Adding to its durability, the TECNO CAMON 50 comes with IP69K, IP69, and IP68 ratings for dust and water resistance, allowing it to withstand up to 30 minutes of full submersion.
Durability extends beyond its physical build, too. TECNO confidently promises that the CAMON 50 is designed to be as fast in its fifth year of use as it is on day one. A bold claim that speaks to its focus on long-term performance and longevity.
One setback is that its rear panel is highly prone to smudges and fingerprint marks. Thankfully, TECNO includes a free ribbed transparent case that helps keep the surface cleaner while providing an extra layer of protection.

Even its dedicated AI button keeps things understated, coming in a muted color instead of the prominent red and orange shades commonly seen on other smartphones. Rather than relying on color to make it stand out, TECNO gives the button a textured finish for emphasis.

Impressive multimedia
The TECNO CAMON 50's display is one of its biggest highlights, boasting a sharp 1.5K resolution on a 6.5-inch AMOLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate. At P13,999, that's a compelling combination for the price. The result is crisp visuals, fluid animations, and an overall smooth and pleasing viewing experience.

Adding to the display's appeal are its Eye Care features, which help make viewing more comfortable, along with its peak brightness of 4,500 nits, ensuring details remain visible even when under direct sunlight.

Everyday reliability
There's nothing extravagant about the TECNO CAMON 50's performance, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Instead, it's a phone that prioritizes reliability for everyday productivity. Throughout the month we used it as our main device, it consistently handled our daily tasks with ease, and we hardly encountered any noticeable stutters.
The TECNO CAMON 50 runs on a MediaTek Helio G200 Ultimate with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, expandable to a claimed 16GB via TECNO's extended RAM feature, useful for keeping apps in the background, but not a substitute for real memory. The bigger catch is what the Helio G200 doesn't do – it's a 4G-only chipset, so there's no 5G here at all. At P13,999, that's a hard omission to overlook, since most competitors at this price have moved to 5G. Storage isn't expandable either, with no microSD slot, so 256GB is what you're committing to.
One of the TECNO CAMON 50's biggest strengths is its lineup of useful and interesting AI features. Its dedicated AI button provides one-tap access to several AI models, including TECNO's own Ella. From the same hub, you can easily switch between ChatGPT, DeepSeek, Gemini, Meta AI, and Grok, without having to jump between different apps or web browsers.

It may seem like a small convenience, but having multiple AI models in one place can save time and make it much easier to use the right AI tool for whatever task is at hand.
50MP camera
A 50-megapixel main camera takes the lead in capturing social media-ready shots. We put the TECNO CAMON 50 to the test in a dimly lit indoor setting on a gloomy day, and despite the challenging lighting conditions, the results were surprisingly decent. Colors remained distinct, while details came through clearly enough to make the photos ready for sharing. You can check our sample photos on TeknoGadyet's Facebook page.

One of the features we particularly enjoyed trying out is the AI Art Gallery, which instantly transforms your photos into different famous art styles. The TECNO CAMON 50 also packs other AI-powered camera tools, including AI Auto Zoom for intelligently reframing shots and AI Shadow Remover for cleaning up unwanted shadows. Watch our Reel on our Facebook page to see these features in action.
All-day stamina
With its large 6,500mAh battery, the TECNO CAMON 50 has enough staying power to keep up with a full day of work and play. When it's time to recharge, its 45W wired charging gets the job done quickly. It took us just 1 hour and 3 minutes to bring the battery from empty back to 100%.
Final thoughts
After a month with the TECNO CAMON 50, our verdict is simple: it knows exactly what kind of smartphone it wants to be. Rather than chasing spec-sheet bragging rights or flashy design gimmicks, it puts its strengths where they matter in everyday use—a display that punches above its price, a battery that can easily last through the day, durability ratings that are uncommon at the P13,999 price point, and a genuinely useful suite of AI tools.

The lack of 5G, however, is the one compromise that could sway some buyers. If 5G is part of your daily routine and you consider it a must-have, there are other options worth considering. But if you mostly rely on Wi-Fi and LTE is more than enough for your needs, the trade-off becomes easier to accept. You’re giving up a connectivity feature you may not always use in exchange for a display, battery, and build quality you’ll appreciate every day.

That’s ultimately the appeal of the CAMON 50. It may not have the longest spec sheet in its price range, but it puts its resources where they count and that makes it an easy phone to live with.
