VERDICT:
It’s a tricky match between the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 5. Having different price tags, both smartphones offer different advantages to win this battle.
Placing them face to face, you’d notice that the ZenFone Max Pro M1 is larger at 159mm x 76mm x 8.5mm, however, the Redmi Note 5 shares the same 5.99-inch IPS FHD+ capacitive touchscreen with 2160 x 1080 pixels. Also, both handsets deliver an 18:9 screen aspect ratio.
Inside, ASUS’ device runs on pure Android 8.1 Oreo operating system, while its rival operates MIUI 9 based on Android 8.0 Oreo. The twist? The two phones are powered by 64-bit Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz, paired with Adreno 509 graphics. Nevertheless, the Redmi Note 5 is coupled with a bigger 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage that is expandable up to 2TB via microSD card.
Moving on to its photography department, the handsets gave us a close fight, as well. The ZenFone Max Pro M1 comes with a better dual-rear camera design, composed of 13-megapixel f/2.0 OV16880 sensor + 5-megapixel depth sensor with PDAF and LED flash. On the other hand, the Redmi Note 5 bounced back with its 13-megapixel selfie snapper with LED flash. We just have to note that although the Max Pro M1 sports a smaller 8-megapixel front camera, it still manages to offer an 8.5-degree wide-angle lens and softlight LED flash to deliver a good selfie experience.
