Canon EOS R8 Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera Launches in PH for Only Php107,998

Canon today unveiled the EOS R8, a new entry-level full-frame camera that combines the EOS R6 Mark II's powerful video and still shooting features, such as Canon Log 3 and up to 40 fps continuous shooting, with the portability of the EOS RP.

"Canon recognizes the importance of producing and creating high-quality videos that meet the ever-changing needs of serious video professionals." "The new EOS R8 provides advanced hybrid video shooters with top-tier features such as 4K quality videos at 60p and superior imaging quality of a 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor, allowing video professionals and serious content creators to elevate their creative storytelling to the next level," said Benny Yu, Head and Director of Consumer Imaging and Information (CII) Division, Canon Marketing. (Philippines).

"Without a doubt, the EOS R8 represents exceptional value for money for video professionals and advanced content creators looking to get more serious about video and require a full-frame camera capable of recording source footage that fits into more advanced production workflows," Yu concluded.

Canon's Smallest and Lightest EOS Full-frame Mirrorless Camera Helps You Stay Agile

At around 461g (with battery pack and SD card), the compact and lightweight EOS R8 keeps users agile, giving them an advantage when it comes to inventive camera angles and transitions.

Because the EOS R8 is equipped with Movie Digital IS, which digitally performs tilt correction and 5-axis image stabilization during video recording, camera shake is no longer an issue when shooting handheld videos. As a result, even when using lenses with no optical image stabilization, stable handheld movies can be achieved. When combined with an optically stabilized lens, the two systems execute coordinated control for improved image stabilization outcomes.

A Wide Range of Recording Options to Meet Various Production Needs

The EOS R8 is well-equipped to tackle the various requirements and workflows to create stunning videos, from run-and-gun event coverage to documentaries and short films that take more post-production work.

Source footage of high resolution from 6K oversampling—up to 4K 60p

The quality of a movie is primarily determined by the source footage. The newly developed 24.2-megapixel CMOS image sensor in the EOS R8 captures 6K data across its full width, resulting in high-quality cropless oversampled 4K UHD footage at up to 60p.

The EOS R8 has heat suppression measures that enable you to film up to 4K 30p with no recording time restriction and up to 30 minutes at 4K 60p for productions where you need to leave the camera rolling.

Full HD 180p Dramatic 6x Slow Motion Video

Shooting in Full HD at as high as 180p will create 30p output with action slowed to 1/6 the speed for more dramatic scenes. When shooting at 4K 30p/25p, rolling shutter distortion is decreased by nearly half on the EOS RP.

Canon Log 3 and HDR PQ Video: High Dynamic Range Options for Your Post-Production Workflow

Aside from standard 8-bit recording, the EOS R8 provides two choices for 10-bit 4:2:2 high dynamic range video recording. When viewed on an HDR display, HDR PQ offers an impressive dynamic range and beautiful colors right out of the camera. Meanwhile, Canon Log 3 provides the same degree of information that is not "baked-in," allowing for greater flexibility in heavier post-processing workflows involving color grading.

Focus that is Consistent and Seamless

In both photography and videography, the focus is critical and nearly challenging to correct in post-production. With the same Dual Pixel CMOS AF II technology as the EOS R6 Mark II, the EOS R8 nails it during both still and video recording.

Focus in as little as 0.03 seconds.

Experience quick, precise focusing: the EOS iTR AF X system not only recognizes and tracks people, animals, and vehicles using deep learning, but it also identifies and "locks" onto other subjects using characteristics such as shape, color, and brightness. This allows the camera to obtain focus in as little as 0.03 seconds and track subjects tenaciously across the entire image frame (horizontal x vertical). As a result, this is perfect for photographing birds, wildlife, and action.

Even in low lighting

The low light constraints of up to EV-6.5 for stills and EV-42 for video ensure that the AF works even in low-light situations. This works in conjunction with the camera's high native ISO speed levels of up to ISO 102,400 (still photography) and ISO 25,600 (video photography) to improve low-light usability.

Features of a Professional Cinema Camera

These EOS R8 features will help you improve your film creations:

  • Correction for focus breathing: reduces noticeable fluctuations in the angle of view while focusing.
  • False colors and zebras: advanced visual tools for adjusting and establishing exposure.
  • Aspect marker display: allows for easier video framing to fit different social media dimensions.
  • UVC (USB Video Class)/UAC (USB Audio Class) support: USB-based plug-and-play direct audio and Full HD video transmission to a computer; perfect for live streaming.

It also has the Multi-function Shoe, which is a digital interface that allows for a cordless digital setup with suitable devices like external microphones.

Two new lenses are available: the RF24-50mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM, and the RF-S55-210mm f/5-7.1 IS STM.

Along with the EOS R8, Canon unveiled two new RF lens additions, offering up to 4.5 stops' equivalent Optical IS and support for focus breathing correction.

The RF24-50mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM is the smallest and lightest RF-mount zoom lens available for full-frame cameras.

The RF24-50mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM weighs roughly 210g and measures 5.8cm when retracted, resulting in a 671g combination that is lighter than the EOS R5 body alone! On a full-frame camera, it spans a wide angle to a standard view, providing compositional flexibility that distinguishes it from similarly sized prime lenses.

The lens, which has 4.5 stops of Optical IS, will allow users to discover new perspectives. It also enables enhanced stabilization via Coordinated Control IS with cameras with Movie Digital IS and In-Body IS: up to 7 stops' IS is possible with the latter.

The RF-S55-210mm f/5-7.1 IS STM is a lightweight Telephoto Zoom Lens for the APS-C EOS R camera.

The RF-S55-210mm f/5-7.1 IS STM, which weighs roughly 270g, is now available for APS-C EOS R camera users who want a compact, lightweight telephoto lens to match their camera bodies. At the tele end, the new lens has a full-frame equivalent angle of view of roughly 88 to 336mm, as well as semi-macro capabilities (up to 0.28x magnification) and close-up shooting (closest focusing distance of 0.73m). Using two UD lenses and two optically placed aspherical lenses corrects chromatic aberrations, resulting in good resolution, sharpness, and color throughout the zoom range.
