Reliance Broadcasting Set to Broaden Reach Nationwide, Enabled by KTSAT's Advanced Satellite Technology

Reliance Broadcasting Unlimited Inc. (RBU), which is based in Pampanga, is about to reach a lot more people across the country thanks to a Direct-to-Home (DTH) licence that the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) gave it. The licence makes it easier for RBU to use KT SAT's cutting-edge satellite technology. This makes KT SAT a top Korean satellite communications company.

RBU can now broadcast free-to-air channels like PTV, GMA, RPTV, GTV, All TV, and 14 more "must carry" stations now that it has a DTH licence. This new development makes sure that even the most remote parts of the country can receive important content.

Furthermore, RBU works with different groups to send educational and public service announcements in addition to its main broadcasting function. The goal of this project is to reach every Filipino, from the provinces of Batanes and Ilocos in the north to the southern parts of Mindanao.

Atty. Frank Martin Abalos, President of RBU, talked about how hard it is to get information to people in an area with more than 7,000 islands. "However, RBU's transition to a DTH operator allows us to extend critical public information to more Filipinos, aiming to connect every island nationwide," he told us.

The NTC gave RBU temporary permission last year to offer DTH services all over the country. Since then, RBU has worked with KT SAT, a branch of KT Corp. (formerly Korea Telecom), to get the satellite technology this service needs. KT SAT's satellite resources reach more than 60% of the world's land area, letting people all over the world use satellite communication services.

RBU is almost ready to give set-top boxes to people who want to use its services.

Atty. Abalos also talked about how RBU's DTH service works well with its partner, Converge ICT Solutions Inc.'s fibre internet services. Using satellite technology, this synergy will let broadcasting services reach faraway places where fibre optic lines can't.

With a fibre footprint that covers more than 700,000 kilometres, Converge is the best fiber-to-the-home fixed internet provider in the Philippines.
