GCash Spotlights the Remarkable Journey of Adz Dumapong, First Filipino Paralympic Medalist, in Latest Film Release
GCash, a leading app for managing finances in the Philippines, is very proud to share Adeline "Adz" Dumapong's interesting story in their latest GCash Stories. This short film brings attention to the problems that people who want to be paralympic athletes have to deal with, such as not having enough money and help from their community.
Neil Trinidad, who is in charge of marketing for GCash, says, "Adz is a true inspiration." Her journey is a powerful lesson that everyone has untapped potential, no matter what skills they have. We hope that this movie will start an important talk about progress and acceptance for everyone, with a focus on the need for more help for people with disabilities.
The story starts with Adz as a young woman in 2000, who is thrilled to have qualified for an international competition. However, the happiness quickly fades as the huge job of raising the money comes up. Adz isn't giving up, and he keeps calling possible backers without any luck. People and groups who care about her support her, and she wins the Philippines' first Paralympic bronze medal on the world stage.
After all these years, Adz is still on her goal to help others, even though it's hard for grassroots para-athletes to get sponsors. She finds a way to solve the problem in GCash and uses it to get the important money that non-national team para-athletes need. She wants to encourage other people to dream big and set their goals high through GCash.

Adz was born in Kiangan, Ifugao. When she was three, she got polio, which made her unable to walk. In spite of this, the Rehab Department of the Philippine Orthopedic Center helped her learn para-powerlifting while she was staying at Bahay Mapagmahal. With a bronze medal in Sydney, Adz became the first person from the Philippines to win a Paralympic title. Since then, she has won 19 world medals, showing that having a disability doesn't stop you from being great.
Adz is more than just a great athlete; she is also a powerful leader who has paved the way for many others. Her impact goes far beyond the weightlifting platform, inspiring a new generation of people with disabilities.
Even though Adz Dumapong is no longer competing in para-powerlifting, she is still dedicated to giving people with disabilities more power. She has a better understanding of the problems people with disabilities face because she works with WOWLEAP, Inc., a group run by women. As their Project Manager, Adz leads efforts to make the group more open, help people become financially independent, and raise understanding in society.
GCash is stepping up its commitment to financial inclusion and growth for everyone by teaming up with groups that support disabled people. GCash is taking real steps to give people with disabilities more power, inspired by Adz Dumapong's story.
As part of its plans, GCash has made an agreement with the National Council for Disability Affairs (NCDA) to make the workplace more accessible so that disabled people can do well. Together with WOW LEAP Inc. and Visa, GCash gave wheelchairs to the Philippine Orthopedic Center in the hopes that these will help people be more independent and improve their quality of life.
"We are proud to work with groups like the NCDA and WOWLEAP, Inc. to help the PWD community," said Winsley Bangit, who is the Group Head of New Businesses and Wealth Management at GCash. "Adz's journey fits with our goal of making sure everyone has access to money." We are committed to working closely with the PWD field to teach and help people with money so that everyone has the same chance to succeed.
GCash will continue to work with groups that share its values to create complete systems that meet the needs of people with disabilities in the future.
Every time you use GCash to buy something, you can help wheelchair sports and people with disabilities. Watch the whole "Adz" short film on YouTube to see Adz's moving story.
